Before I begin my spiel about the Wine of the Month, I’d like to clear up a misconception about my role here at the store: I am not in charge. People assume that I am because I am tall and white, but in reality the deli girls rule the store with an iron fist.
They bully me mercilessly. They call me college boy and give me swirlies when we run out of Modelo. They believe a trained monkey could do my job. Sancerre here. Lambrusco there. That it’s true only makes it sting worse. The only way I get any respect around here is if I sell out of the Wine of the Month. Not to point fingers, but this recent onslaught of teetotalers has left my reputation in the gutter. That’s why I have decided to give you what you want: a dry, crisp, foreign white that you can enjoy all spring. What the French call Rolle is known in Italy and throughout the world as Vermentino. Why is that? Because they’re French. Anyway, the wine is from Cotes Catalanes, a region located along the Pyrenees in Southern France that produces well-priced wines influenced by the Mediterranean climate. This is classic pool wine – it’s light with notes of fresh yellow fruit and pleasant acidity. Enjoy with seafood or just by itself. Buy two while you’re at it. If you’ve ever come to me to complain about the deli, which earned me the nickname “El Sapo Puto”, this is how you can make it up to me |
