january 2026
January is a very hard time for me. So many partake in “Dry January” that I’m left without a sense of purpose. I imagine it’s not so dissimilar to when your wife goes out of town: sure it’s great to putz around without being nagged all the time, but after a few days you start to miss her. What you plebes will never understand is that recommending wine gives me the same thrill as waking up next to someone I love. I’m not doing much of either at the moment, so you can imagine what I’m going through.
Physician, heal thyself. Allow me to tempt you. Give in to the bottle’s warm embrace with this savory red Cotes du Rhone - a wine so good for the price that it might be Dry January-proof. The wine comes from Plan de Dieu, a Grenache-focused appellation within the southern Rhone valley. This generously bodied wine is highlighted by pleasant tannin and notes of cozy baking spices, and pairs perfectly with saucy or braised dishes. Just a solid, versatile GSM to help get us through the winter together. If you want to talk more about it, by all means ask. I’m so bored I might start helping in the deli. Nobody wants that. |
