Tariffs have ravaged the wine industry. My favorite old world wines are now a dollar, maybe even two more expensive than they were – catastrophic to a guy who both buys a lot of wine and lives on the razors edge of destitution. Could I “buy less”? Sure. But what type of example would I be setting for you, the customer?
Lucky for us, Habit Wines up in Santa Ynez has produced a lovely red blend at a fantastic price. A blend of whole cluster Syrah, Grenache and Cinsault, the cool coastal air settles in the Santa Ynez Valley and keeps the berries from over-ripening, resulting in a wine that shows fresh red fruit balanced with tangy acidity; perfect for enjoying with a slight chill as we move into fall. It’s the type of domestic wine that we love to highlight, even if there wasn’t some bozo measure taken to increase competition. |
