“Wine is one of the most civilized things in the world and one of the most natural things in the world that has been brought to the greatest perfection, and it offers a greater range for enjoyment and appreciation than, possibly, any other purely sensory thing.” -Ernest Hemingway, Death in the Afternoon
We are a small wine shop, so by definition have to reject more wine than we can accept. This is not to say that the screening process is a negative process. Far from it. We love exploring the offerings of tireless and dedicated suppliers and make selections based on a few guiding principles: The wines should display a distinctive, harmonious, elegant and balanced nature. They should possess pure fruit flavors. Where possible, they should be produced by winemakers that adhere to at least sustainable farming practices. Finally, they should be well-suited to drink with good food. Seeking out these pleasurable wines is both self-satisfying and hopefully selfless, as we of course select wines that we really like, but always think of our customers’ needs at the same time.
With an admitted bias towards the great wines of France, Italy and the United States, we also carry selections we love from Spain, Germany, Austria, Portugal, Argentina, Australia, New Zealand, Slovenia and Hungary. Wines range from $5.99 and up, and we offer a 10% discount on any purchase of 12 bottles or more.
We offer a carefully chosen Wine-of-the-Month, that offers our customers a chance to try something new and perhaps a departure from their comfort zone at a reasonable price.
With the greatest of respect to the esteemed Wine Advocate and Wine Spectator magazines, we do not buy or sell wines based on their scoring systems. We believe we choose well based on the principles stated above, and we humbly invite you to stop in and explore our selection.
Spirits & Beer
While we do not carry every brand known to man, our spirits are mostly small-production, and in some cases rare examples of Scotch, Bourbon, Rye, Gin, Vodka, Grappa, Absinthe, Liqueurs and Tequila. We also carry an ever-changing selection of beers from Belgium, Germany, the UK, USA, France and Japan.
