We sold this wine for a brief moment while it was available, but the headache-du-jour that is supply-chain disruption caused a long “outage” of one of our favorite fun liters of red. This is Montepulciano in an accessible style: fresh, upfront fruit and a pleasing juiciness. We need more unpretentious wines in our lives and this fits the bill nicely. We thought it deserved a spotlight here.
Sourced from organic, dry-farmed and pergola trained old vines, the wine benefits from it’s origins high up in the hills above the Adriatic. Clay, limestone and sandy soils produce a pleasing minerality that balances the freshness of the fruit in the wine. Dark ruby in color with aromas of black cherry, raspberry and red plums, the wine shows quite sophisticated texture and good persistence in the finish. This is quite a refined little wine in a big bottle.
No need to overcomplicate the food matching here…charcuterie and cheeses, red-sauce pastas, stewsor our No. 3 sandwich with a bag of Torres Black Truffle chips. “Abbondanza” means abundance or plenty…so go on, buy plenty of this.
