We’ve made it to the end of another interesting year, with perhaps a few more downs than ups, but we still feel the need to celebrate the holidays and be thankful for all our blessings. So, it’s time to crack open some sparkling wine to help the cause. Of course, while making a case to celebrate with bubbles, we should also mention how great this stuff is with all manner of meals, holiday-style or otherwise. We’ve said it before, but we really should drink this stuff more often.
Considering your wallets, we are always searching for sparkling wines that deliver a sophisticated, “almost-Champagne” experience at a good price. This Cremant de Bourgogne producer is somewhat unusual in that they source all their fruit from the Cote d’Or, the heart of Burgundy and location
of the finest vineyards. A blend of Pinot Noir, Gamay, Aligote and Chardonnay from old vines averaging 40 years old, this is aged on its lees for over 20 months, when the minimum standard is 12 months. The result: a wonderfully complex and vinous sparkler that displays both a depth and verve that belies the price.
There is a hint of nuttiness and baked bread on the nose layered behind ripe red apple and Bosc pear, leading to a broad yet lively palate. A fine mousse and pure fruit flavors are backed by lively minerality and a quite weighty texture. Excellent stuff to help you see out 2018 and also match up with all the holiday grub that you will be enjoying or forcing down, depending…hors d’oeuvres of all stripes, leftovers in front of the telly or that little caviar indulgence. We wish you all a fruitful and peaceful holiday season. Thank you for all your support this year!
