We’ve made it; the lucky amongst us, to the end of this annus horribilis, so let’s count our blessings, reflect a little but perhaps more importantly look forward to hopefully better times ahead. If you feel up to celebrating endings and new beginnings in any way, might we suggest an appropriate sparkling wine for such a purpose?
We’ve always liked the value that Loire Valley sparkling wines offer, especially in the hands of dedicated, serious winemakers. Despite being overshadowed by their more expensive cousins in Champagne, these are wines that deserve more attention. Sourced from sustainably farmed vines that grow in flinty, clayand limestone soils, this is a classic dry sparkling wine of sophisticated character. Vinified in the traditional method, aged for 24 months (twice the minimum for the appellation) this is disgorged to order, another tenet of quality rarely seen in value sparkling wine like this.
A blend of Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, this wine shows great complexity on the nose, throwing out peach, pear, flinty soil, dried apricot and honeysuckle aromas. The palate displays a fine, delicate mousse, notes of apricots, nectarines, honey and a crisp acidity that frames a very “Champagnois” finish. This is fantastic value and not only a good celebratory beverage…this will match with all sorts of appetizers, rich creamy cheeses, charcuterie, pastries and yes, caviar.
We owe our survival and ability to continue in business to all of you, so we heartily thank you for your amazing support throughout 2020! Here’s to 2021.
