Ready for another spin around the sun? Well, ready or not, here we go with another choice selection for your resolution-busting drinking or food choices. Francois Chidaine has been one of our favorite Loire producers for quite some time (he makes incredible Chenin Blanc in Montlouis, as well as a Sauvignon Blanc from Touraine that we always sell). Farming biodynamically, only using native yeasts and minimal sulfur, he has habitually been adopting this “natural way” long before it became a movement.
A blend of 1/3 each of Cabernet Franc, Cot and Pinot d’Aunis from old vines that Francois farms personally, this is a wine of great typicity…mineral and savory notes on the nose complement ripe red fruits and a little floral flourish.
The palate is not heavy, but there is plenty of bright, succulent fruit. The minerality and nicely balanced acidity makes for a juicy, approachable wine, ideal for all sorts of wintery fare…fondue, stews, black-eyed peas with ham, pungent soft cheeses and empanadas.
Happy New Year everyone!
