Well, it’s all a bit grim out there in real life, so why not use July as a well-deserved break and indulge in some of what they call “fun” for a change. We thought this wonderful, non-serious, but delicious liter of rose from Greece could lift the spirits and fend off the blahs. From the Peloponnese region in southern Greece, the Troupis family sources sustainably grown Moschofilero grapes from high altitude (2,100ft) sites and keeps things simple when it comes to this charming rose.
Hand harvested and from only first press juice fermented in stainless steel, the result is a light-hearted and approachable liter of goodness and yes, fun. There is quite some aromatic complexity here, with notes of honeysuckle, lychee, bubblegum, spice and strawberry Starburst flying out of the glass…the palate offers up generous fruit, supple, silky texture and a reassuring dry, refreshing finish.
It’s a proper summer rose and appropriate for all sorts of cheerful outdoorsy foods: shellfish, grilled or
otherwise, plats du fromage, Baja fish tacos or just drink it while you stare at the sunset and wash away your troubles.
