Spring is a reopening, a return to more normal life after a dreary winter (not so much here obviously..!) and this year there is just a sense that we might be really on our way to a life that we remember before the Coronavirus arrived. Here’s hoping anyway.
This month’s wine was enough cause for celebration for us, as we get rather over-excited by wines like this…stunning quality for not much money. We remain amazed as to how producers like this (a Swiss family meticulously farming in this tucked-away corner of southwest France since 1920) manage to get
wines of this quality to us over here at such a bargain price. We won’t ask too many questions and won’t complain. This is a great opportunity to grab a brilliant, complex white wine for all your Spring drinking and eating requirements.
A blend of Colombard, Sauvignon Blanc and Gros Manseng, grown in clay, limestone and sandy soils littered with fossils, this shows exotic fruits, pineapple and grapefruit aromas on the nose. The palate has great persistence and length, with bracing acidity that ensures freshness and focus. This shows high levels of sophistication for the price. What a great dry white for matching with shellfish, pungent cheeses, grilled poultry and creamier pastas.
